Lessons

I have been teaching music for the past 13 years and currently teach beginner piano and beginner/intermediate/advancing violin from my cozy home in West Asheville. While my degree is in classical violin performance, I have experience playing in many different settings and enjoy incorporating my students unique musical interests into their lessons. I do not follow any one method for teaching. Instead I cater lessons to each students specific goals and learning styles. I host two recitals a year (one formal indoor recital in the late fall/early winter one outdoor porch recital in the late spring/early summer. ) These events are included in tuition.

FAQs

  • Most adults need a 4/4 size violin although some smaller adults are more comfortable in a 7/8 or 3/4 size. A child student could need anywhere from a 1/32-4/4 size and every teacher sizes a little bit differently so I recommend first finding a teacher you trust and having them help you pick out the correct size. For me I like the student to be able to hold the instrument under their chin and reach their fingers all the way around into the scroll and still have a slight bend in their arm.

  • Renting is a great option if you are just trying out violin to see if it is something you like, you have a child student who is rapidly growing, or you do not want to invest a big chunk of money up front.

    Buying is a better option

  • It depends! If you are just starting out 2 hours a week is a great goal to aim towards (spread out in 15-30 minute sessions throughout the week) However, more advanced students who are preparing for auditions should be practicing an hour or more a day depending on how much repertoire they need to learn.

  • Scheduling

Lessons take place year round with the exceptions of holidays and vacations. See studio calendar for more information and let me know about any vacations/absences you plan to take with as much notice as you can. In addition to teaching I am also a performing musician so I may need to cancel or reschedule lessons due to performances. I appreciate your flexibility with that.

    Payment

Payment requests will be sent out by the 25th of the month and are due by the 1st of the next month. If payment is not received by the 7th a late fee of $20 will be charged. The amount due is for all planned on lessons for the coming month. 30 minute lesson= $30, 45 minute lesson= $60, and 1 hour lesson $60.

    Missed Lessons

Unplanned absences (the kind I don’t know about before the 25th of the previous month) cannot be refunded. However, If I have 24 hours notice, I am happy to reschedule if we can find a time that works for both of us. If the student is sick or has been exposed to Covid please contact me to reschedule or to arrange to have your lesson online.

    Discontinuation of Lessons

If for any reason you decide to discontinue lessons please schedule a time to discuss this with me. If it is due to financial reasons I would love to work out a solution together. If it is due to loss of interest I’d love to discuss strategies for helping the student. If these issues cannot be resolved, notice must be given by the 25th of the month to prevent any charges.
